Automation of Feedback on the Writing Process - Construction and evaluation of process-oriented feedback based on the granular characterization of revision episodes
Assessing writing is a time-consuming and arduous task for teachers. An increasing number of computer systems are seeking to automatically assess learners’ texts. However, automatic assessment and feedback systems tend to focus solely on the text produced and ignore the way in which it was constructed—that is, the writing process followed. Many existing frameworks on feedback tend to emphasise the importance of taking the process into account. This thesis therefore explores the use of computer tools for characterising the writing process, and, in particular, the revision process, and the implementation of feedback systems that take these aspects into account.
