  • The intelligent learning agents based on the artificial intelligence and information retrieval methods construct a user model in order to adapt the interface to him. Our aim is to develop one of these agents for the SATELIT system. SATELIT is a hypermedia information retrieval system implemented on the Web. It is based on the taxonomic knowledge that memorize and manage objects clustered into hierarchical classes organized into taxonomies. Thanks to intelligent agent SAGE (SATELIT AGENT) the SATELIT's interface becomes adaptive, that allows the user to be guided in the browsing Web space. SAGE analyses the user's browsing actions and tryes to infer its end search goal. We propose one classification of Web-based agents according to their activity sphere on the Web, and we distinguish SAGE as a new agents' type. Thus, in order to suggest the user to visit some Web pages or to explore some specific SATELIT's tools, SAGE integrates the methods of Web-based agents with unlimited activity sphere and adaptive hypermedia techniques that use previously acquired domain knowledge. We evaluate SAGE's efficiency and we compare it with the other intelligent agents.
