  • This thesis deals with Human-Computer Interaction and involves two subjects.: Computer science and Ergonomics. It offers a new tools-based approach to create and implement interactive systems that can be compatible with user requirements.
    The work presented here deals with "engineering ergonomics". This results into the ERGO-START methodology that address ergonomic issues at all the design levels. This methodology is characterized by an interface specification and generation approach based on the users’ tasks analysis.: AIDE (Approach for user Interface Design based on Ergonomics).
    AIDE relies on two models.:
    - the formal description of users’ tasks.: MAD*. The graphic tool MAD*-Tk (MAD*-Toolkit) allows a complete management of the task structures and the simulation of the activity scenarios.;
    - the model representing the interface semantic and perceptual aspects.: CIS (Conceptual Interface for Specification). The graphic tool CIS-Tk (CIS-Toolkit) allows to edit, validate and animate the interface specifications.
    The first phase of the AIDE approach consists of starting from the description of MAD* tasks to the specification of the conceptual CIS interface. The second phase carries out the generation of the physical interface. These two phases are not sequential, which makes it possible for the designers to proceed top down or bottom up at the same time. Tools based on ergonomic rules allow to assist the AIDE phases.
    The global tool constitutes a software engineering workshop for supporting the design of ergonomic interfaces. A prototype of this workshop is being used at the moment for concrete applications.
