This report gives an overview of the different digital signal processing systems. We first study the state of the DSP circuits market. Then we present the common features of DSP systems and the specific constraints for each application domain . The different solutions for a VLSI implementation are analysed and compared: ASIC circuits, DSP processors, RISC processors, microcontrollers, and FPGA. The results illustrate strenghts and weaknesses of these solutions regarding implementation constraints: performance, hardware cost and power consumption.
