The increasing use of digital signal processing in Electronic systems has resulted in a continuous growth of the Digital Signal Processor market. This survey presents an overview of these processors. We first remind the main architectures used in signal processing, then we point at objectives and particular features of DSPs. Finally we investigate the latest trends in processor architecture: VLIW, Risc-DSP, DSP Cores.
