Abstract: Responsible and explainable data management is crucial for advancing decision support systems, artificial intelligence, and other applications. In this presentation, we will share our ongoing research focused on the management of textual data, emphasizing the preservation of contextual information and addressing issues related to data veracity. We will introduce a novel AI-driven approach to annotate, integrate, and manage textual data, as well as discuss the challenge of assessing data veracity through a logic framework based on Zadeh’s Z-numbers.

Bio: Guy De Tré is a Full Professor in the Department of Telecommunications and Information Processing at Ghent University, where he leads the Database, Document, and Content Management (DDCM) research group. His research interests include computational intelligence in information management systems, with a focus on uncertainty handling, multi-valued logics, and spatio-temporal modelling. He also conducts applied research in areas such as big data (NoSQL databases), information fusion, flexible querying, decision support, data quality, and unstructured data. Professor De Tré is a principal investigator in the Flanders AI Research Program and serves as the scientific coordinator of the post-academic track on ‘Future-Proof Data Management’ at the Ghent University Academy for Engineers (UGain).
