Combining Evidence in Hybrid Medical Decision Support Models

In order to address the problem of information reliability, it is necessary to examine each component of the system separately before deciding on the best approach for combining information. Figure 1 shows sources of potential input to an automated decision support system. Note that the human decision maker is a component that is also considered. All contributors to the final decision may agree, in which case no problem arises. However, in complex decisions, components may disagree. In this case, options must be considered for choosing or combining results. Factors must be identified that will aid in choosing and perhaps weighting outcomes.
