A theoretical association model for IEEE 802.15.4 TSCH networks

Abstract : The Time Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) mode of the standard IEEE 802.15.4 provides Medium Access Control (MAC) for most Low power and Lossy Network (LLN) applications in the Internet of Things (IoT). The standard defines an association algorithm to allow nodes to autonomously form the network. The time required to create the network can be long, which consumes valuable energy given that nodes keep their radios on when trying to associate. This talk is trough about a theoretical model development to estimate the time required for a node to associate to one synchronizer. Theoretical and experimental results will be shown to probe the proposed model validity.
Bio : Erik Ortiz Guerra received the bachelor and master degrees from Central University “Marta Abreu” of Las Villas (UCLV), Cuba, in 2008 and 2011 respectively. From July 2013 to February 2014, he was PhD. student at the Federal university of Technology-Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil. In 2015 he received the PhD. degree in Technical Sciences from the UCLV. Since 2008 he is professor at Electronic and Telecommunications department at UCLV. His research interests are in the area of cognitive radio networks communication establishment and MAC protocols for lower IOT layers. He is a recipient of the mention award for best PhD. thesis in Cuba in 2015 and a recipient of the 2016 Research Award from the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
