Résumé : Ce texte est l'un des chapitres du futur "Handbook of formal languages". Il présente une synthèse des résultats connus et des problèmes ouverts sur les semigroupes syntactiques et la classification des langages reconnaissables.

Abstract : This paper is one of the chapters of the future "Handbook of formal languages". It is a survey paper on known results and open problems about syntactic semigroups and classification of recognizable languages.
