Reliability, security and privacy in WBAN

WBAN is a network system dedicated to the communications between sensors devices located on the human body. WBAN can collect and process physiological data of the human body which can be used for various medical applications. Challenges in the WBANs area ranges from the design of reliable communication protocols when facing the human body mobility to the security and privacy protection during the data transmission.
Our research starts with implementing different communication strategies and a realistic human mobility. We provide massive comparative simulation results. According to the analysis of these results, we provide the tree-based convergecast strategy and the ZKP-based authentication mechanism, to improve WBAN in terms of the reliability, security and privacy.
A Markovian model for broadcast communication is also proposed to evaluate WBAN performance. Our theoretical model is compared and validated with the massive simulation results. Another abstract application layer reliability mechanism is also introduced and implemented to improve the reliability and the transmission efficiency of WBAN.
For the Inter-WBANs communication, we adopt recent distributed ledger system dedicated to the Internet of Things area: IOTA. We studied the core data structure of IOTA and proposed solutions for the potential defects of the confirmation equity and the energy efficiency.
